The flamingo family stuck their heads in the sand, claiming, ‘We don’t want to get involved.’ Despite knowing my ex was engaging in seriously shady behaviour by using the family business to conceal travel, salary and lifestyle while he played a long game.  My family and I spent two years trying to raise the alarm, but it was ignored until they realised it was impacting their future.

All warnings from my side of the family were ignored. The abuse through the court process was delay, deny , distract and reverse victim. I had read about the DARVO effect, but didn’t understand it until we lived it. My children and I were left to manage the devastating consequences, struggling with financial uncertainty while the opposition had undisclosed advantages and resources.

By the time the family finally paid attention, it was too late. Their focus had been entirely on protecting themselves rather than repairing the long-term harm to us. I now understand why women were put in asylums – they were portrayed as ‘crazy’ for speaking up. Elegance aside, flamingos make terrible family members.
